Eligibility
African-born scholars currently living in the United States or Canada who are professors, associate professors, or assistant professors at an accredited college or university. Host institutions must be accredited universities in Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, or other African countries participating in the program. Projects must be in specific areas like curriculum co-development, research collaboration, graduate student mentoring, etc. The program is designed to facilitate collaboration between African diaspora scholars and African universities.
Details
The Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Program (CADFP) is a scholar grant program for African-born academics currently living in the United States or Canada to travel to Africa to collaborate with universities in Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, and other African countries. Fellows work with host institutions on projects in curriculum co-development, research collaboration, and graduate student mentoring. The program aims to strengthen capacity at African universities. The application for Cycle 2, 2026 is expected to open in July 2026.
Financial Benefits
Fully funded, covering round-trip international airfare, a daily stipend, and a modest project allowance for the host institution. The fellowship duration is typically 14 to 90 days.
