The EPOS program offers scholarships for a range of postgraduate courses at German universities specifically aimed at professionals from developing countries. The program supports specialists who are well-trained and connected with international partners to play a part in the sustainable development of their countries. The scholarships offer foreign graduates from all disciplines the chance to take a postgraduate or Master's degree at a state or state-recognized German university, and in exceptional cases to take a doctoral degree. Applications must be submitted directly to the respective course at the German university. Please refer to the current EPOS brochure for the list of eligible courses and specific application procedures.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree (usually a four-year course) in an appropriate subject
Candidates must have at least two years' professional experience in a relevant field at the time of application
Candidates must be from a developing or newly industrialized country (included in the DAC list of the OECD)
Academic degrees should normally not be more than six years old
For courses in German: DSH 2 or TestDaF 4 (usually a preparatory German course is included)
For courses in English: IELTS (Band 6.0) or TOEFL (minimum score: 550 paper-based, 213 computer-based, 80 internet-based)

Financial Benefits

Monthly scholarship payment of 934 EUR for graduates or 1,300 EUR for doctoral candidates
Payments towards health, accident, and personal liability insurance cover
Travel allowance, unless these expenses are covered by the home country or another source of funding
One-off study allowance
Monthly rent subsidy under certain circumstances
Monthly allowance for accompanying members of family under certain circumstances
