The SOKENDAI Special Researcher program is an intra-university fellowship designed to foster future researchers. It appoints students enrolled in SOKENDAI as 'Special Researchers' and provides them with financial support to allow them to concentrate on their research activities. The program is available to students at KEK (High Energy Accelerator Research Organization) which hosts SOKENDAI schools.

Eligibility Criteria

• Students enrolled in the doctoral course of SOKENDAI (The Graduate University for Advanced Studies). • Students who possess excellent research abilities and are expected to play an active role in the future. • Applicants must not be receiving a JSPS Research Fellowship for Young Scientists. • Applicants must not be receiving a Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship (with monthly stipend). • Applicants must not be receiving support from the SOKENDAI Special Researcher (Field-Specific Type). • Applicants must not be receiving a salary or stable income sufficient for living expenses from a company or organization.

Financial Benefits

• Research Encouragement (Stipend): Approximately JPY 180,000 to JPY 200,000 per month. • Research Expenses (Grant): Up to JPY 400,000 per year. • Support is generally provided for one year, renewable upon screening.
