•Must be currently enrolled in a master's or PhD degree program in economics or a related discipline (finance, econometrics, international trade, public finance)

•For PhD candidates: Must be within one to two years of completing their degree and under the age of 32 at the start of the internship

•For Master's candidates: Must be enrolled in a master's program and under the age of 28 at the start of the internship

•Must be in active student status and returning to university studies following the internship

•Open to citizens of all IMF member countries

•Excellent analytical, quantitative, and research skills

•Strong command of written and spoken English

The Fund Internship Program (FIP) provides an opportunity for promising graduate students to gain firsthand experience with the International Monetary Fund. Interns undertake a 10 to 12-week research project at IMF headquarters in Washington, D.C. between June and October. Working under the supervision of experienced IMF economists, participants conduct research on macroeconomic policy, financial systems, or international economics, producing a research paper that is presented at the conclusion of the internship.
